Transmission Facilities

Utilities (such as natural gas, electricity, and telecommunication) that are longer than a quarter of a mile long are conditional uses in all zoning districts. Electrical substations and switching stations are prohibited with residential and public zoning districts. A transmission facility permit must be approved before installation of these utilities can be installed.

A transmission facility permit requires a public hearing with the Planning Commission before City Council review. Neighboring property owners will be notified of the public hearing and a public hearing notice will be published in the Dakota County Tribune.

The City Code addresses Essential Service and Transmission Facilities within Section 11-2-17.
