Below is a summary of the City of Rosemount exterior material requirements for single family, townhome, and accessory buildings. There are additional requirements for barns or agricultural buildings and your Homeowners’ Association may have specific requirements for your neighborhood. Please contact the Planning Department for more detailed information or if you have any questions.
Except for earth sheltered homes, all exterior vertical surfaces of a single-family dwelling and accessory structures shall be treated as a front and have an equally attractive, or the same, fascia. Any exterior building finish shall consist of a combination of the following materials: wood, brick, natural stone, aluminum and glass, steel, or vinyl siding. Steel siding with exposed panels exceeding sixteen (16) inches in width, shall not be permitted.
Permit and Fees
A building permit is required to side or re-side all buildings. Residential siding is a set fee of $76.00 (includes state surcharge).Specific Requirements
- A water resistive barrier (house wrap) – one layer of #15 felt paper or equivalent is required on all buildings and attached garages. Not required on detached accessory buildings.
- Siding must be installed per the manufacturer’s installation procedures.
Inspections
A final building inspection is required (provide photos of house wrap and flashing for vinyl siding). All inspections require a 24-hour notice to the Building Department. To schedule an inspection, please contact 651-322-2024.
